More Bay Area Funk/Soul Music-Monophonics

10 04 2010

Just ran across these guys via Destruments on Twitter.  Checked out their site, listened to a few songs, and me likey.  If I were to describe their sound based on the few songs I heard it would be as follows:

If you threw Tower of Power and Marc Moulin (among other 60s-70s funk/soul) into a mixing bowl, stirred them up, and poured out a hard hitting, body moving, funkalicious (1,000x better than Fergalicious) groove, you would have Monophonics (here you can listen to and purchase the full album).

Here is Baobob Tree, from their album Playin & Simple.

Comments and ratings greatly appreciated=]

Oaktown Playas – Destruments

5 04 2010

If you haven’t heard of these guys, it is a requirement you hear them NOW.  Coming out of Oakland, these guys put it down.  FYI, stretch your neck muscles, because you will be bobbing you head.  Enjoy a few videos, then stop by their MySpace, add them, and buy their albums from iTunes, Rhapsody, and other places.

Another Soundtrack Piece…Transformers: The Score

31 01 2010

Another intense composition from Transformers: The Score, not to be confused with Transformers: The Movie, as they are 2 separate albums.  If you bought the regular soundtrack (Transformers: The Movie), you would get no Steve Jablonsky compositions.

Get pumped for the 5.5 minutes you are about to experience!

Peril from the Halo 2 Soundtrack

20 01 2010

I haven’t done a music post in a while, so i figured it would be fitting.

“Peril” composed by Martin O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori…(artist page)

This is one of my favorite pieces from the Halo 2 soundtrack.  Listening to this song would be a great way to start any day, I don’t care where you are.

As always, feedback and subscriptions are appreciated=]

Glendale Community College Jazz Band

15 12 2009

We just had an awesome performance last night, followed by a great jam session/after hang.  I just found this video today and thought I would post it!  We closed our set with this song last night, but the video clip is from a previous performance at Peoria High School’s “Fall Into Jazz” concert.  This is the sax section KILLIN IT on a soli in Cruisin’ for a Bluesin’, written by Andy Weiner and arranged by Peter Blair.  Enjoy!

Some Jay-Z to Lighten Your Day

9 11 2009

I recently re-discovered this song in my library and have been re-obsessed with it along with the entire album, The Blueprint 2 (1&3 too) since.  The beat is EPIC with a pretty nice Nas dis as well.  Shut your eyes and mouth, and open your ears because they are about to melt off your head.

I will give 2 gold stars, a high five, and a mention to anyone who can name where it was sampled from! =]

Jazz, Jazz, Jazz

21 10 2009

Like everyone else, I have my hobbies.

Mine include music, so I like to take a break from real estate, sit back and listen/play.  I’m in a jazzy mood tonight, and I have a feeling you will be too after listening to this piece…one of my favorites performed by the late Cannonball Adderley.  They are right in the pocket, making this song FEEL extra good.
